Interior and Local Government Sec. Jonvic Remulla disclosed that there were discussions that former President Rodrigo Duterte would not return to the Philippines when he went to Hong Kong last March 7.

Remulla said the core group was composed of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., National Security Adviser Eduardo Año, Defense Sec. Gilbert Teodoro, and himself.

“You cannot plan an operation like this and involve too many people,” he said.

Webb then asked Remulla if it was a little odd or hard for Año, who was a former member of Duterte’s Cabinet.

“I think he still shares some affection for the former President. They had a very good working relationship, but he is a professional, he is a soldier, and he is a gentleman, so he served his role, and the information that he gathered and shared were very reliable,” Remulla said.
